Levy County has a population of around 40,000 residents. The major law enforcement agencies of the county are the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Williston Police Department, Cedar Key Police Department, and Chiefland Police Department. Like most counties in the state of Florida, all the law enforcement agencies work very closely with Florida Highway Patrol. Levy County has begun a crack down on speeding and in the last year over 6,000 moving violations were issued. The majority of these were issued for unlawful speed. Levy County is also very proactive when it comes to issuing criminal citations. Of the 1,000 criminal citations that were issued in the past year, more than 60 percent of them were for driving without a valid license which is a violation of Florida statue 322.03.

 

The county seat for this county is Bronson. Levy County is part of the 8th Judicial Circuit and has one county judge. Judge Joseph Smith has been serving Levy County since 1993.
