Putnam County is located in northeast Florida. The county lies to the south of Jacksonville. Putnam County is home to several state parks and one wildlife reguee. The population of the county is around 75,000. The major law enforcement agency that is responsible for ensuring the laws are being followed is that of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office is assited by the local police departments as well as the Florida Highway Patrol. The local police departments include Cresent City, Interlachen, Palataka, an Welaka. Putnam County is very aggressive when it comes to issuing violations for unlawful speed.

 

In the last year close to 8,000 moving violations where issued and close to 65 percent of those were due to unlawful speed. Other violations include careless driving and failure to stop at a red light. Putnam County also has a zero tolerance for people who drive under the influence. The sheriff”s office and Florida Highway Patrol have been known to set up DUI checkpoint through the county. Last year over 2,000 criminal citations were issued and over 200 of those were for DUI. Other violations included driving without a valid license, driving with a suspended license, and fleeing the scene of an accident.
